If I arrive in Pisa by plane, can I use a taxi to Lucca?

Yes, we would suggest you to take into consideration the opportunity of a taxi sharing system, which can be scheduled on the day of your arrival. Sharing the taxi with other participants would allow you not only to reduce the overall transportation expenses and enjoy a more comfortable journey, but also to save the time needed to get a taxi connection to and from the train stations.

Interested participants are encouraged to provide us with their time of arrival; two Ph.D. students Guerrazzi Marco (guerrazzi@ec.unipi.it) Corsini Lorenzo (lcorsini@ec.unipi.it) will kindly collect your schedule. We will then return you the information of the participants with traveling needs similar to yours, so that you may easily coordinate the transportation on the arrival.

What is the " Luminara of St. Ranieri " and how can I go to Pisa?

In the evening of June 16, we will provide a bus service that will allow you to take part to the St. Ranieri Candlelight Festival, the celebration of the patron saint of Pisa. Busses will be parked at the Economics Faculty parking area in via Matteotti (point P, map below). The event takes place on the “lungarni” the river banks of the town, starting at “ponte della Fortezza” (point R).

The architectural details of the palaces – windows, cornices, balconies – the parapets of the river and the bridges will be glowing in the reflected light of over 70,000 ‘lumini’ (small glass lamps burning oil or wax) while thousands of lighted candles will float on the waters of the Arno. The celebration will end with a firework spectacle best visible from the west side of the town. Busses will be filled and return back to Lucca on a first come first served basis, within midnight.
